New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, touched on contract tracing in a recent interview during a discussion about easing from level 4 lockdown to level 3.

Jacinda Ardern said:

“What I’d ask you to do is prepare.

Our new normal is going to be an environment where we need everyone to be able to help us with contact tracing. So, if you think about your business now having basically new health and safety needs. Think about every person coming in the door. If you need to, would you be able to find every person that came through the door on any given day? Would you be able to look at who’s had contact with different parts of your supply chain?

This is the kind of cooperation and preparation we need businesses to do because it will be critical.” – Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

This indicates that contact tracing of COVID-19 confirmed cases will become a health and safety obligation for businesses.

That will be challenging for a great number of organisations.

Imagine receiving a call from a contracting supplier.  “I’m calling to inform you that one of my staff, Ralph, has been confirmed as having COVID-19”.

Do you have systems in place to confirm whether Ralph was on your site while contagious?  Can you identify exactly what days he was there?  Will you be able to confirm who else was there?  These people are all potential “close contacts” and should be immediately advised, along with the relevant health authorities.

So, how can you effectively implement contact tracing?

There are many ways to keep track of people that are present on site.  In the past logbooks, or paper trails may have sufficed. But in our “new normal” there is no room for human error or unnecessary human contact. Time is critical to reduce transmission, so it’s important to be able to look up who was on site, whether they were a high risk or positive COVID-19 case.

When accounting for these factors implementing technology is the best option to effectively contact trace.

At Forsite, we’ve been using smart tech to automate presence on site for years…  Our solution is perfect for contact tracing and reducing person-to-person contact, whilst increasing remote management and visibility of on-site contractors.
